How to Heal
Healing as Inner Alchemy
‘Healing’, what an oddly soft and vaguely comforting word, isn’t it. It tends to evoke images of a sunlit room, a bubble bath, herbal tea, banana bread, maybe a gentle yoga class followed by reflective journaling.
That is a form of restoring balance, of course, and that is what healing essentially is all about.
However, healing as understood here, is far less ‘decorative’.
It points to deep transformation. To the disorienting process of uprooting belief systems, thinking patterns, stuck emotions and behavioural loops that stand in the way of becoming a healthier, more evolved version.
Not as ‘pretty’ as the sunlit bath tub image, but definitely more profound and, arguably, more beautiful.
It’s setting yourself on fire, to become someone new. And that again and again and again. Until what remains is a version of you that is authentic, loving, healthy, stable, and has something of value to contribute. A version of you that is upwardly evolving.
Healing goes deeper than self-improvement. Self-improvement tends to refine the existing structures. It’s about being the same person, but with more efficient systems in place. Healing is changing your emotional baseline, mental landscape, subconscious programming and habitual patterns. A change so fundamental that even the identity that houses and organizes all these energies, dissolves and reorganizes itself into a new form.
A sign that it is your karma to go on a true healing journey, is when a lot of areas in your life are out of balance. This blog discusses how to intentionally structure a healing quest to ensure effective, one-by-one resolution of all your challenges.
At its core, healing is altering your ‘energetic make-up’. It is a reorganization of the frequency your system resonates at, emotionally, mentally, physically, and behaviourally. Everything, at the most fundamental level, can be described in terms of energy and information. So are humans. By changing our resonance to be more in alignment with what’s beneficial instead of destructive, we also shift our lived experience and gradually become another person. The old life naturally vanishes because it no longer is a match.
The more you change your resonance towards what’s ‘good’, the better your life becomes. What’s ‘good’ however, differs per person. We all have different characters and stories to live out, with varying lessons beneficial for our soul’s evolution.
There are a lot of energy healing modalities out there. Some, like reiki, are calming and centering, but do not change you. They relax you however, supporting the self-corrective abilities of your system when it shifts out of chronic stress into peace.
But the kind of energy work, that truly reshapes your identity and behaviour, that works with deeper patterns and mental-emotional structures, and moves you through a kind of inner alchemy that leads you to becoming someone new, is shamanic energy healing.
With shamanic energy healing, the process is often described as working with the underlying energetic blueprint of certain patterns. When these patterns are brought into awareness and released or transformed, the system naturally reorganizes itself around a new baseline.
Mind, body, emotions, and identity slowly begin moving in the same beneficial direction, which gives you a sense of peace, ease and power. This process is automatic, it happens in the background.
After every shamanic energy healing session, things start changing automatically for you. Your thoughts will start shifting, your moods, your actions. One day you will be your old self, the other an updated version. This process continues till a solid new baseline is reached and your new identity does not require discipline to maintain.
Because of the intensity of this kind of inner work, integration periods between sessions are often considered essential. Time is needed for the system to stabilize and embody whatever shifts have occurred. In more extended processes (true healing journeys), longer integration phases are recommended after doing multiple sessions, in order to allow changes to fully settle.
