Healing AD(H)D symptoms with Shamanic Energy Healing - Part 3

The elusive holy grail of concentration finally arrived.

Three months after the incident on the couch, during which I felt my brain hemispheres reconnecting in a dream, that familiar sense of ‘knowing’ that a chapter was coming to an end returned.

This time, it happened in the living room of a holiday rental in Greece, in the evening. I had just practised giving my thoughts a seat again - a technique I had learned from a bodyworker in Amsterdam. It was the third or fourth time I had worked with it.

Combined with the momentum from the energy healing session around this theme, and the way my system had shifted to no longer need the medication, it felt as though this practice pushed over the final dominoes of the issue. The space in my head finally cleared. It was as if a fog had lifted.

And, just like with the other challenges I had worked through, it never returned.

Was, in this case, the shamanic energy healing session alone that restored my concentration?

As you can read no, but it was a big part of it. Rather than treating my concentration problems as a fixed neurological condition, shamanic energy healing addressed what I experienced as their energetic root, allowing more balance in my system and more focus to return. So much so, that the desire and need for meds fell away.

But there was more work to do on a physical and mental level.

For this, the shamanic energy healing session was also a catalyst. It initiated a much broader healing process. Shortly after I quit the medications. the right bodyworker came onto my path.

This bodyworker introduced me to a form of parts work that I now also incorporate into my own AD(H)D-focused sessions. She helped me externalise my thoughts by quite literally taking them out of me, giving each one a place, a seat and a voice. It sounds highly abstract, but it was remarkably effective.

Instead of being consumed by the constant stream of thoughts in my mind, I could finally observe them, understand them and - through this process - integrate them so they didn’t pop up anymore.

You can picture the process like this: a thought is a form of energy. When you give it your full, undivided attention and meet it with curiosity and acceptance rather than resistance, it begins to dissolve. With this process of integration, the acknowledged thought now disappears and stops demanding your attention. Do this long enough, and your mental chatter slowly slowly disappears. One of my former clients describes this process beautifully in his review, as the experience is difficult to put into words (the last one on this page).

It was the combination of the shamanic healing, repeatedly externalising and integrating my thoughts through parts work (both with my bodyworker and independently), and learning to descend from my head back into my body through bodywork, that created the healing shift.

Does that mean my concentration is high now? It actually is. After these healing session results, I started discovering what works for me and found workplaces that were in alignment with that. If they have too may meetings in a day for example, that doesn’t work for my brain if I have to do work that demands high levels of concentration. For me it works to wake up super early, and then work non-stop till around 14:00. Then take a break and start again at 18:00. While in the past I would daydream most of that time away, I’m now productive from beginning to end. I’m not distracted by my thoughts anymore.

I recognize that also another thing shifted that helped: I’ve created a life I really love so I don’t need to constantly think about how to make it better. That was one of my main distracting thoughts.

The following year after the shift, I found myself able to manage both my concentration and my time with an ease I hadn't experienced in years. That ability has stayed with me ever since.

I’m eternally grateful.

If you feel you’d like support with your AD(H)D, you can reach out to me. I’d recommend doing multiple sessions, with homework in-between. The sessions will include everything I used to heal: shamanic healing with systemic work influences, parts work, stream-of-consciousness writing and deep bodywork.
