Transformation Requires More Than Willpower
Only when your inner world is in alignment, you can utilize the power of your will.
Transformation is usually approached mentally and behaviourally: conventional wisdom tells you to make a plan, set goals, and then start executing. For certain things in life, this can absolutely work.
But there are areas (to each their own) where no amount of planning, thinking and strategizing and can create lasting change.
When you decide to transform one of the areas that you are ‘not very good at’ and you do so in a mental-behavioural way (make a plan and then just take action) it usually goes something like this: The first day everything goes well. The motivation is fresh and you are excited about the new you that you are becoming. Day 2 same. Day 3 the motivation is gone, and you now have to rely on willpower/ discipline. Depending on your reservoir of those, and the stubbornness of your pattern, you have a limited amount of time before you throw in the towel and consider yourself a failure.
This is because you’re relying on the wrong fuel for transformation. Self-improvement teaches us that motivation is finite and that therefore discipline is the way, but I invite you to go a level deeper, and that is to even dismiss discipline as the solution for those areas where you are not at your strongest. That is because changing yourself is an incredibly difficult feat, especially when you are trying to transform something that goes completely against your current being.
Transformation in those areas is só difficult because there are (a lot more) parts within you that do not want the transformation, than there are parts within you that want it.
For example: some part of you wants growth, but more of you wants safety. Or you want intimacy, but the fear of rejection is too big. You want success, but the parts in you that want to avoid danger are stronger. You want peace, but the love for the thrill of chaos is bigger.
These inner conflicts are often rooted in trauma, conditioning, inner child wounds, ego defenses, shadow aspects, or deeply internalized belief systems. They operate unconsciously, which is why logic alone often cannot override them.
That is where healing comes in.
Healing brings the fragmented parts of yourself back into alignment, so your mind, emotions, body, and deeper self stop pulling in opposite directions.
Only when your inner world is brought into alignment, you can utilize the power of your will. Otherwise your different wills will be pulling you into different directions.
The tool that enables deep healing and transformation is shamanic energy healing. It ‘pulls up’ all the buried parts in you that resist change, so they can be seen, felt and released. No analysis or thinking required. That’s the beauty of this work.
If you feel you’d like support with that process, you can reach out to me. I work as a shamanic energy healer and help people overcome deep patterns in a direct, experiential way.
